Run Windows 10 from an external HDD?

I want to run Windows 10 from an external HDD. How does it influence the speed of the OS? Which HDD would you recommend according to the speed? I was looking at the Western Digital My Passport Ultra series with USB3.0 connection, but a hard drive with USB type-C would also do.
